Record My Ride
Allow drivers to video record their rides for their protection, from the Uber app — for free.
Role: Content Designer | Timeline: May-August 2022
PROBLEM STATMENT
User dissonance is prevalent with a feature like Record My Ride. Drivers may see the benefits of using a camera to record inside their cars, but have concerns about privacy, device capability, and rider perception.

RESEARCH
With key product decisions lingering, we conducted focus groups with Uber drivers that allowed us to explain the new feature, get feedback, and directly ask them what they would like to get out of the feature.
Here are some key concerns from those two sessions:
-
“What will my riders see? What if they’re not comfortable being recorded?
-
“I don’t want to be coerced into stopping the recording mid-trip, but can I turn off the feature if need be?“
-
“If the recording is encrypted, how does Uber gain access?“
DESIGNS
Now with new user feedback, I could make a strategy to create the most user-friendly onboarding process. The goal was to create a flow that not only “sold“ the feature, but answered user questions and eased their concerns.
FINAL THOUGHTS
This project offered a unique experience in learning about the influence of content on design choices. I feel that this is a good example of treating your users as the design experts to create a truly user-centric experience.
