BELK COLLEGE OF BUSINESS
Undergraduate Programs Restructure
A prototype project to revamp and restructure navigation for the Belk College’s UP webpages.
Role: Digital Communications Specialist | Timeline: June - July 2021
BACKGROUND
As a communications specialist, one of my priorities included the College's undergraduate programs. I would create digital content for email, social, and web.
One of my last projects for the program included a website audit and redesign to improve the student digital user experience.
PROBLEM
Navigation menus on Drupal tend to get lengthy, especially on mobile. Users are unable to navigate quickly and efficiently to subpages.
Google Analytics showed that most users did not stay on the website for more than three minutes.
“When applying, I wanted more information on my major, but struggled to find it online.”
SOLUTIONS/DECISIONS
Refine navigation with in-page buttons
Instead of having users rely on the extensive menu, we enabled them to navigate using buttons within each page.
Make navigation engaging
We found that photos of people don't always resonate with users and decided to simplify the webpage buttons with just text for quicker comprehension.
PROTOTYPE
Using the resources available to me, I prototyped our planned web pages using Google Docs. This was one of the first times I started to apply a UX approach and process to my work.
